Are The Frogs Looking For A 7-Footer?

You have been asking and is listening. We will be the best source on the web when it comes to TCU basketball recruiting coverage. Come inside BPN to hear another 2010 recruit that has a TCU offer! learned earlier this week that St.George(VA) Blue Ridge junior center Martins Abele has picked up an offer from the Frogs. Abele is also receiving interest from Maryland, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Pittsburgh and Northwestern.

A 7-foot-1, 295-pound native of Latvia, Abele is playing 7 to 8 minutes a game behind fellow junior Darnell Turner, who has been an early target for Maryland. Currently Abele is averaging 4 points and 3 rebounds per game. His minutes could be going up in the near future as he recently he scored 17 points and grabbed 11 boards against the Hargrave Military Academy.

"He's come back from an injury he had before Christmas," Blue Ridge coach Bill Ramsey told the Daily Progress. "He's gotten himself into really good shape and is playing really aggressively and really well."

Currently Blue Ridge (16-1 overall) is the #1 ranked team in the state of Virginia. Various national rankings have the Barons on the edge of being in the Top 100.

Deemed by some in the Virginia area as a college project, Abele would provide the Frogs a 7-footer that they have not had in a long time.

"I am working hard to get my body stronger and I think when I am much stronger than I was last year," Abele told "I need work a lot to get my body in the highest level."

Abele reports the strongest parts of his game are his post moves and mid-range jumper. Currently he has a 3.2 GPA.
