Nate L. Smith wasn't thinking scoop and score when Temple's punt return unit assembled on the field late in the third quarter of Friday night's contest at Charlotte. The Owls weren't planning to put a hard rush on Charlotte punter Arthur Hart. But Hart's line drive punt was blocked by Temple's long-armed defensive end Sharif Finch, and the ball caromed back towards Smith, who was happy to grab it and head to the endzone for a touchdown. later, Smith added an interception and 74-yard return that set up the Owls' final touchdown in a blowout victory.
