It took an extra day but College GameDay is coming to Philadelphia.

ESPN’s national showcase pre-game show will air live from Independence Mall on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon before Temple’s prime-time matchup against Notre Dame at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday night. The game – the Irish’s first trip to Philadelphia and first meeting of two ranked teams in Philadelphia history - will be nationally televised on ABC starting at 8 p.m.

The No. 21/No. 22 Owls (7-0) will host No. 9/No. 9 Notre Dame (6-1) in a game which will be nationally televised on ABC. Usually ESPN makes the Gameday announcement on Sunday but tweeted Sunday night they were going to sleep on it.

Washington State’s showdown against Stanford was also considered a strong candidate for the show.

The honor is the latest in a list of achievements for Temple this year, including its first-ever 7-0 start and first national ranking since 1979. The Owls have been one of college football’s best stories, finishing just 2-10 two seasons ago in Matt Rhule’s first season.

Temple’s victory over East Carolina on Thursday night put it in the driver’s seat to be the East Division representative in the American Athletic Conference’s first championship game on Dec. 5.

"Having ESPN College GameDay come to Philadelphia is tremendous not only for Temple Football, but for the University as a whole as well as the city of Philadelphia," Temple Director of Athletics Dr. Patrick Kraft said in a statement. "The exposure will shine a light on all of the great things happening at Temple, not just the success of our nationally-ranked football program. People around the country will get to learn why Temple is one of the hottest universities in the nation, and that Philadelphia is one of the greatest cities in the country."
