Temple's new kicker Aaron Boumerhi ready to take on starting role

The freshman steps into a key spot after the season-ending knee injury of starter Austin Jones.

A week ago, walk-on freshman Aaron Boumerhi was just a name on the depth chart.

But this week, he is in the spotlight after replacing Temple's starting kicker Austin Jones, who sufferred a torn ACL in a loss to Memphis last Thursday night.

Coach Matt Rhule said he would be comfortable sending Boumerhi out to kick any field goal if the ball is inside the 20 and he has range to 53 or 54 yards if need be. Boumerhi was supposed to be red-shirted this year, but plans can change in an instant in college football.

Owlsdaily went `1-on-1 with Boumerhi this week. He talks about his confidence level, taking over for the accomplished Jones, who his favorite NFL player is and what brought him to Temple in the first place in the above video.
