Tennessee makes first impression with Couch

It appears that Tennessee made a great first impression with Garden City Community College defensive tackle Maurice Couch last Friday. Couch confirmed that the Vols have moved up hsi interest list and plans on taking an official visit to Rocky Top.

Who says first impressions aren't important?

Tennessee assistant coach, Darin Hinshaw, apparently made a good first impression last week with one junior college defensive tackle.

Hinshaw made the trip to Garden City Community College last Friday to evaluate a big target for the Volunteers.

Defensive tackle Maurice Couch confirmed that the visit has made a big difference for Tennessee and his interest level in the Vols.

"Coach Hinshaw is a really good guy, my defensive coordinator and he have been friends for a while," Couch told InsideTennessee.com. "My interest in Tennessee has definitely increased since the visit."

Couch, a 6-foot-3, 290-pound Florida native, has offers and a lot of interest in USC, Kansas, South Carolina and Tennessee. Ole Miss has also offered, but appears to be dropping since Tennessee has entered the picture.

"I'm really glad he came to our school," Couch said of Hinshaw. "Tennessee has now moved out in front of Ole Miss."

Couch has been impressed with how hard Tennessee has come on lately.

"They have made it clear how much I'm needed in Knoxville," Couch said. "I like how many guys they have put in the league, how much tradition surrounds their program."

The fact that Tennessee is closer to his home state of Florida may not play a big factor.

"Distance from home won't make a difference in my decision making process," Couch said. "Not at all."

Couch will graduate in May and will have three years to play in three years at the college of his choice.

"Tennessee has definitely moved up to my top five," Couch said. "They will definitely get an official visit from me."
