If any Vol fans think that Derek Dooley can't recruit, think again.

Dooley, who has made recruiting the Volunteer State a priority, had that persistence pay off recently when one of the state's top athletes named Tennessee as his top favorite.

Brentwood Academy's Derek King confirmed with on Tuesday evening that the Vols are recruiting him harder than anyone, causing the Nashville-area athlete to name to Vols his number one leader.

"Tennessee is definitely my No. 1 favorite," King said. "They have recruited me the hardest during this process. They have made me feel very important to their future success."

Not a shabby performance by the Vol coaching staff, especially considering his recruitment has been a dogfight with Ole Miss, the school his father attended.

While King hasn't been to a Tennessee game this fall, he plans on taking care of that soon.

"I want to go to one or two ball games for sure," King said. "I plan on making it up for the Alabama game."

King may not have been to a game yet, but that doesn't mean he hasn't kept up with the Vols' progress this fall.

"I have seen them a little," King said. "They played well in the first half against two top 10 teams. They have played a very tough schedule."

What stands out about Tennessee that has caused King to name the Vols his leader?

"It's the coaching staff," King explained. "It's how they care about me as a student-athlete, not just a football player. I love the atmosphere on campus and I really like all the current players I have had the chance to meet."

King is currently having a great season for his high school team.

"We are 5-0 right now," King said. "I'm playing defense mainly. I have one interception, five pass breakups and 14 tackles for the year."

When will King make his final decision?

"After I take my official visits," King said. "Right now I'm taking officials to Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt. I'm not sure on the last one."
