Diamond Vols limp home

After being swept in a three-game series at Florida, Tennessee's Baseball Vols are hoping ''There's no place like home.''

Rod Demonico's squad lost 5-3, 5-1 and 7-5 last weekend in Gainesville, slipping to 15-11 overall and 4-5 in SEC play.

The good news? The Vols open a nine-game home stand this week, hosting Wofford Tuesday at 7 and ETSU Wednesday at 7 before getting a three-game visit from Ole Miss Friday (7 p.m.), Saturday (7 p.m.) and Sunday (2 p.m.). Saturday's game will be aired in the South by the CSS-TV network. The Vols have won eight of the last 10 versus the Rebels, including a sweep in Knoxville in 2001.

NOTEWORTHY: Junior catcher Javi Herrera is on a five-game hitting streak with three home runs during that span. He leads the Vols with a .352 average and six

home runs to go with 18 RBI. He also paces the team with a .472 on-base percentage with a team-leading 18 walks.

Jordan Czarniecki, who leads the Vols with 16 steals, swiped four bases against Tennessee Tech in a 5-4 win last Wednesday, including three in one inning.

The Vols have homered in a season-high five straight games and seven of the last eight for 19 on the season.
