One of Florida's top linebackers took an official visit this weekend and then had a lot of time to reflect on his stay.
Lakeland's Gionni Paul drove nine hours home with his parents Sunday afternoon after taking his official visit to the University of Tennessee. While he admits he was tired of riding, he had nothing but great things to say about Rocky Top.
"It was a great visit," Paul told InsideTennessee.com late Sunday evening. "It was a lot better than I expected it to be."
Rumors swirled around Knoxville like the snow flurries Sunday afternoon that Paul had committed to the Vols, something that the standout athlete denied.
"I haven't committed to anyone yet," Paul said. "I will announce my final decision in the next week or so."
One thing that really stood out about Tennessee was the character of the coaching staff.
"I really like the way Derek Dooley is a man of high character," Paul said. "I really like the coaching staff he has put together. There is a close family feeling with the staff and the team."
Paul wasn't the only one impressed with Tennessee.
"My mom and dad loved it a lot," Paul said. "They really liked Coach Dooley a lot."
Does Dooley have a plan for Paul?
"He wants me to come in and start right away," Paul said. "He talked about me coming in and being a leader on the defense, even though I would be a true freshman. He likes my maturity and leadership qualities."
"I like Tennessee a lot," Paul said. "They are very high on my list."
