Baseballers blank Wofford

Dusty Johnson celebrated April Fools Day by fooling Wofford batters for seven innings as Tennessee's Baseball Vols clipped the Terriers 4-0 Monday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, snapping a three-game losing streak.

Johnson (3-1) earned the win after striking out a career-high seven while giving up two second-inning singles and a walk. Steve Wesley picked up his second save by tossing the final two innings.

Brian Cleveland led the Vols with three hits. He batted in what proved to be the wining run with an infield hit in the fifth. With two out and runners on second and third, Cleveland slapped a hard single to the left side where shortstop Tony Carbone fielded the ball cleanly only to see his throw sail high over the first baseman's head allowing the second run to score.

Tennessee added a couple of insurance runs in the eighth on Walter Sevilla's two-run shot over the left field fence, his first of the season. Culley Kline (0-6) took the loss, scattering nine hits in the 7 1/3 innings. He gave up three earned runs while striking out three and walking two.

Tennessee plays host to East Tennessee State tonight at 7.
