Baseball Vols back on track

Tennessee's baseball team took two of three games from visiting Georgia over the weekend, boosting the Vol record to 20-14 overall and 7-8 in SEC play.

The Vols won 12-9 last Friday and 16-3 on Saturday, then lost Sunday's series finale by an 8-6 score. It was their first series win over UGA since 1999.

Jordan Czarniecki stole seven bases in the Georgia series, pushing his team-leading total to 25 and his career total to 49, which is 10th on UT's career list.

Head coach Rod Delmonico picked up his 200th SEC victory in Friday's win over Georgia. His career league record stands at 201-186.

Jimbo Watson continues to embellish his reputation as one of the top pinch-hitters in the country. He has gone 9-for-14 (.643) with four walks in 18 pinch-hit appearances, giving him a .722 on-base percentage. For the year, he is batting .500 (12-for-24).

The Vols begin a busy stretch of playing seven games in eight days beginning with a trip to ETSU on Tuesday. They host UNC-Asheville on Wednesday (7 p.m.), then head to Lexington for games Friday, Saturday and Sunday against Kentucky. Saturday's game starts at 7 p.m. and will be aired by CSS-TV.
