Claiborne County athlete Rocky Hayes took the trip to Rocky Top and came away impressed with Tennessee.
"I liked it a lot," Hayes told InsideTennessee.com. "I loved the campus, I liked everything about Tennessee. I got a chance to talk to a coach, it was a great trip."
Hayes came up for the Vols Spring Game and to participate in the InsideTennessee Combine the following day.
"There was a lot of great competition there," Hayes said. "I did my best in the one on ones. I went up against Brian Kimbrow a couple of times. I thought I did well against him. He is definitely very fast.'
It appears that Hayes has a little speed to work with as well. He ran a 4.58 during the combine but didn't match his season best of 4.45.
"I went to the Nike Camp in Athens on Friday," Hayes said. "I didn't get a lot of rest that weekend. My legs were a little sore from running and riding in the car a lot."
Hayes, a defensive back and running back for his high school, turned in an impressive 4.08 20 yard shuttle, and a 39 inch vertical leap. He is listed at 5-foot-10, and 167-pounds.
"Most colleges are looking at me as a defensive back," Hayes said. "I can play a lot of different positions."
