Castellvi helps PR prevail

Lady Vol senior Vilmarie Castellvi won another match at the Fed Cup in San Juan, P.R., helping her native country of Puerto Rico register a 3-0 sweep of Ecuador.

Puerto Rico is competing in Group A of the Americas Qualifying Group II, which also includes Venezuela, the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica. Castellvi helped Puerto Rico to a 3-0 win versus the Dominican Republic on Wednesday.

Castellvi, the No. 1-ranked player in college tennis, had little trouble in her singles contest with Maria Teresa Salame, winning by a 6-2, 6-1 count. She then teamed with Kristina Brandi in the doubles portion of the event and tallied a 6-1, 6-0 triumph against Estefenia Balda and Salame. Brandi provided Puerto Rico with the final point by blanking Balda in singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Castellvi and Puerto Rico have Costa Rica and Venezuela remaining on their docket for Fed Cup.
