2004 Recruiting Profile: Jim Tartt (OL)

Florida is loaded with OL prospects this season and Jim Tartt is one of the best.

It is a terrific year in the Sunshine State for the big offensive linemen and one of the best is Jim Tartt from Crawfordville (Fla.) Wakulla High School. Tartt, an offensive tackle or guard prospect, stands 6-4 and weighs 315 pounds. He bench presses an impressive 450 pounds and power cleans 330.

"I can play either guard or tackle," Tartt said. "I think at this stage I am a better pass blocker. I have pretty good form and good feet. When I run block, I kind of overpower people at this level."

When it comes to recruiting, Tartt is still waiting for his first scholarship offer. That should happen soon as he embarks on spring practice and the May Evaluation process when college coaches can come scout him.

"I am getting a lot of interest from Florida, Georgia and Michigan. They have been sending me a lot of letters. Right now, Florida and Georgia are my favorite schools. They both have great coaches and the people around the program seem pretty cool. So do their players. I also like Florida State, Alabama and Miami. I am looking at tradition, how the schools treat me and what kind of people they have in their program."

So far this spring, Tartt went to Georgia's Junior Day in Athens and he also attended Florida's spring game. He was also a Nike Camp standout in Gainesville.
