Skinns picked for Palmer Cup

Vol golfer David Skinns has been selected to represent Europe in the upcoming Palmer Cup.

Skinns, a sophomore from Lincoln, England, leads UT with a 71.91 strokes-per-round average. He has 16 rounds of par or better and six top-10 finishes to date.

The Palmer Cup pits Europe's finest amateur golfers against the best of the U.S. The competition is scheduled July 10-11 at the Kiawah Island Club's Cassique course in Charleston, S.C. The U.S. holds a 4-1-1 lead in the series.

Vol golf coach Jim Kelson called Sklnns' selection ''a tremendous honor,'' noting that the Palmer Cup is ''a prestigious national event.''

Skinns was named SEC and National Freshman of the Year by Softspikes last season.
