Wingate scores 8 in all-star game

Vol basketball signee Major Wingate scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds for the Purple squad in last weekend's Derby Festival All-Star Basketball Classic at Louisville, Ky. The White beat the Purple 159-130.

Wingate, a 6-foot-9 post player, made four of 10 shots from the floor. He also committed four fouls and four turnovers in his 24-minute stint.

Wingate is ranked No. 6 nationally among center prospects by Mark Mayemura of espn.com. He is rated the country's No. 28 overall prospect by the same source.

Michael Bush, a player UT recruited heavily as a quarterback last winter, was the White squad's MVP after scoring 22 points. He is headed to the University of Louisville on a football scholarship.

Kentucky commitment Shagari Alleyne, a 7-foot-2 center prospect from the Bronx, was the Purple squad's MVP after producing 16 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.
