In the end, having the chance to don the Orange and White of the Tennessee Volunteers was simply too much to pass up as Cody Blanc became the second in-state player to tell Derek Dooley he was accepting his scholarship offer.

Blanc, who is a 6-foot-2, 186-pound safety for coach Joe Hassell at Knoxville Central, received an offer from Virginia Tech at a recent camp after clocking a 4.41-second time in the 40-yard dash. The attention the Hokie staff showed him started to take effect.

A pair of phone calls a couple days later and Blanc added an offer from the hometown Volunteers.

To his credit, Blanc didn't react immediately out of emotion. He tripped over to Nashville to see what Vanderbilt had to offer as well.

Rest and heavy thought didn't change his heart and Blanc plans to be a Volunteer.

Blanc totaled 1,993 yards and 20 touchdowns the last two seasons for the Central Bobcats. He does damage in the classroom as well, currently carrying a 3.6 GPA.
