Complete Player Wrapups from NorCal Nike Camp

In what was an overall very strong group of players, here's a look at each position from the NorCal Nike camp as rated by the position coaches. We purposely don't tell our coaches who the 'big name' players are so these evaluations are based 100% on how the kids looked the day of the camp, not by reputation.

Brian Hildebrand (Corona CA)
6-2, 186 lbs, 4.69 40, 9 reps, 31.9 VJ, 4.20 shuttle
Was also the top signal caller of the day at the SoCal Nike Camp in early April and the top guy at the EA SPORTS Elite 11 workout on Friday, prior to the Nike Camp. Has really seen his stock rise in the past month and several schools are getting close to offering. Has a strong arm, can make all the throws and is very accurate. Is a very good kid with a strong work ethic and someone who is just tapping in to his potential. Will be a four year starter next season and has excellent leadership skills. UCLA, Washington, Oregon and Michigan lead.

Eric Ainge (Glencoe HS, Hillsboro OR)
6-5, 192 lbs, 5.15 40, 16 reps, 24.2 VJ, 4.47 shuttle
One of the surprises of the weekend at both workouts. Has as strong an arm as any quarterback we've seen this year and although he's still a bit raw, has a nice upside to him. Throws a nice tight ball every time and his arm looked just as strong at the end of the Nike Camp Saturday as it did during the EA Sports workout Friday. Uncle is former Boston Celtic star Danny Ainge and Eric would like to double sport in college. Oregon State has offered and Stanford, Arizona State, Oregon and Oregon State lead.

Taylor Bennett (Lafayette HS, Wildwood MO)
6-3, 185 lbs, 4.75 40, 7 reps, 26.9 VJ, 4.23 shuttle
Was the surprise of the camp at Texas A&M last weekend and looked great again on Friday but his arm was noticeably tired on Saturday and he didn't have the same zip on his passes as he did the previous week. Only played in three plays as a junior but we definitely feel he has Div I potential and should go out and have a strong senior season. Likes Stanford, Florida, Texas, Texas A&M, Georgia and Mizzouri.

Others who impressed:
C.J Bacher, (Jesuit HS, Carmichael CA) – 6-2, 175 lbs, 4.69 40, 28.9 VJ, 3.97 shuttle
Pat Pinkney, (Pine Forest HS, Fayetteville NC)
Darrin Bragg, (Bellarmine HS, San Jose CA) – 6-1, 180 lbs, 4.62 40, 12 reps, 33.4 VJ, 4.00 shuttle

Marshawn Lynch (Oakland Tech HS, Oakland CA)
5-11, 195 lbs, 4.40 40, 19 reps, 34.3 VJ, 4.19 shuttle
Was arguably one of the top five players at the camp and had a very nice showing in the position and one on one drills. Has good size and looked very quick with nice balance. Has loose hips and has more of a wiggle than we thought with a good burst. Also caught the ball and could be the state's top running back prospect. Is getting a lot of looks right now but grades could be a concern. Likes UCLA, Cal and USC at this time.

Jackie Bates (De La Salle HS, Concord CA)
5-9, 180 lbs, 4.35 40, 19 reps, 38.6 VJ, 4.09 shuttle
Tested off the charts and is a very intriguing prospect right now. Could play running back or corner although offense appears to be his first love. Played behind UCLA bound Maurice Drew but still rushed for over 700 yards and 15 touchdowns. Will be the featured back this season and should put up monster numbers. Likes UCLA, Cal, USC, Texas, Florida and Oklahoma.

Dominic Carrie (Miramonte HS, Orinda CA)
5-7.5, 170 lbs, 4.49 40, 12 reps, 32.7 VJ, 4.35 shuttle
A small scat back type who is very quick and shifty. Has all the moves and could be an ideal third down back for the right college team. Catches the ball well and is very elusive in the open field. Was injured part of last season and only played in six games but rushed for 653 yards and 15 touchdowns. Likes Oregon State, Texas and Washington.

Others who impressed:
Shawn Benjamin, (Watsonville CA) –5-10.5, 190 lbs, 4.44 40, 14 reps, 34.1 VJ, 4.03 shuttle
Ronnie Drummer, (North HS, Salinas CA) – 5-9, 162 lbs, 4.34, 14 reps, 4 reps, 33.1 VJ, 4.33 shuttle
William Taufoou (FB), (St. Francis HS, Mountain View CA) – 5-10.5, 245 lbs, 23 reps

Cameron Colvin (De La Salle HS, Concord CA)
6-1, 186 lbs, 4.31 40, 13 reps, 32.4 VJ, 3.85 shuttle
Earned Camp MVP honors and had a great day both in the testing and on the field. Has everything you could want in a Div I receiver. He has a college body right now, showed good hands in the position and one on one drills and has that extra gear that you just can't coach. When he comes out of his breaks, his ability to separate from his defender is no like no other receiver we've seen at any of the Nike Camps. Has offers from UCLA and Arizona State and favors Michigan, UCLA, Miami, ASU, Florida and Texas.

Lavelle Hawkins (Edison HS, Fresno CA)
5-11, 165 lbs, 4.41 40, 13 reps
Just a hair behind Colvin and looked smooth in the position drills and caught the ball very well. He may not be as explosive as Colvin, but is still plenty fast as evidenced by his 4.41 time in the 40. Earned All-State Underclass honors as a junior after catching 53 balls for 980 yards and 14 touchdowns and will be one of the nation's top recruits next season. Tennessee, USC and Florida are his top three.

Austin Collie (Oakridge HS, El Dorado Hills CA)
6-0.5, 183 lbs, 4.51 40, 12 reps, 36.3 VJ, 4.07 shuttle
Had a great camp and made some of the nicest catches of the day. Much better than we expected and is bigger and faster that we anticipated. His hands and ability to get open set him apart but he also has good size and can run. Had 56 catches for 860 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior and has offers from Stanford, Washington State and BYU. Favors those three along with Notre Dame at this time. is LDS and could go on a Mormon mission.

Others who impressed:
Morgan Trent (St. Mary's HS, Orchard Park MI) 6-1, 180 lbs, 4.41 40, 15 reps, 35.3 VJ, 3.88 shuttle
Robert Jordan, (Hayward CA) – 5-10, 150 lbs, 4.56, 4 reps, 33.0 VJ, 4.14 shuttle
Sammie Stroughter (Granite Bay CA) 5-9, 168 lbs, 4.35 40, 13 reps, 32.2 VJ, 4.07 shuttle
John Peel (Chaparral, Scottsdale AZ) 6-1, 180 lbs, 23 reps, 34.5 VJ, 4.06 shuttle

Andrew Woodruff (Victoria HS, Victoria, British Columbia)
6-2.5, 297 lbs, 5.37 40, 30 reps, 25.9 VJ, 4.89 shuttle
Had a very good camp and should see his stock sky rocket as a result of his performance. A very intriguing prospect who was actually a senior last year and took official visits to Akron and Central Florida before deciding to attend a prep school in Canada. has good size, is very strong and has a nasty streak to him that you love to see in an offensive lineman. Could play guard or center in college and has a nice upside to him. Likes Cal, USC and Miami.

John Gibson (St. Mary's HS, Stockton CA)
6-4, 240 lbs, 4.75 40, 19 reps, 24.6 VJ, 4.49 shuttle
Had a strong camp and was considered the best offensive lineman of the day by some of the position coaches. Is very quick and athletic and shows up well on film. Plays tackle in high school but would like to be recruited at center which would be a good fit for him considering his lack of bulk right now. Does have the frame to easily pack on another 40 pounds or so and has already gained a solid 15 pounds since last year's Nike Camp. USC leads Stanford, Arizona State, Washington and Oregon right now.

Jacob Hucko (Cerritos CA)
6-7, 280 lbs, 5.30 40, 20 reps, 24.0 VJ, 4.71 shuttle
Might have been watched by more colleges than any other offensive lineman. Has a nice frame and actually looks lean at 280. Has long arms, good lateral ability and a nice mean streak. Not as athletic as Gibson but isn't immobile by any stretch. Arizona, Oregon and Nebraska have all offered and Oregon, Arizona State, UCLA, USC and Washington State are his leaders.

Others who impressed:
Bradis McGriff, (Vallejo CA) –6-5, 300 lbs, 5.34 40, 21 reps, 24.6 VJ, 4..25 shuttle
Matt Wakeford-Evans, (Del Oro HS, Loomis CA) – 6-0, 250 lbs, 4.93 40, 24 reps, 27.1 VJ, 4.77 shuttle
Chris Hurts, (San Leandro CA) – 6-2, 265 lbs, 5.40 40, 19 reps, 25.4 VJ, 4.87 shuttle

Phillip Mbakagu (Hayward CA)
6-2, 260 lbs, 5.00 40, 32 reps, 4.58 shuttle
Very strong player who has the quickness to play end but figures to eventually get up to around 280 and play tackle in college. Far too strong for most high school linemen and has excellent intensity and explodes off the ball. Was a All-State Underclass and Student Sports Junior All-American selection last fall after tallying 17 sacks. Likes Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Cal and Michigan with offers from USC and Cal. 3.3 GPA.

Jeff Schweiger (Valley Christian HS, San Jose CA)
6-4, 240 lbs, 4.56 40, 31 reps, 30.9 VJ, 4.11 shuttle
Tested very well and stood out in the drills, rivaling Mbakagu as the top defensive player at the camp. Went up against all the top linemen at the camp and never came close to losing in the one-on-one drills. Figures to be one of the top five defensive recruits on the West Coast with his size and speed coming off the edge. Had 138 tackles and 13 sacks as a junior. Likes Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Colorado, UCLA, USC and Washington and has over 20 scholarship offers. 3.0 GPA.

Jason Roberts (Central HS, Fresno CA)
6-4, 213 lbs, 4.69 40, 21 reps, 33.2 VJ, 4.45 shuttle
Another very good looking defensive end prospect who can bring it off the edge. Not nearly as well-known as Schweiger, but had a productive junior year, with 88 tackles and 13.5 sacks. Needs to add some mass but that should come with age – should be a very nice player in college at about 235-240. Likes Fresno State, USC and Washington. 2.5 GPA.

Others who impressed:
Tony Lee (Serra HS, Gardena CA) – 6-3.5, 235 lbs, 5.19 40, 17 reps, 26.2 VJ, 4.80 shuttle

Isley Filiaga (Timpanogos HS, Orem UT) – 5-11.5, 285 lbs, 5.03 40, 45 reps, 24.2 VJ, 4.55 shuttle
Desmond McCollins (Franklin HS, Stockton CA) – 6-2.5, 275 lbs, 5.47 40, 19 reps, 22.4 VJ, 5.12 shuttle
Ron Schenck (Pittsburg CA) – 6-0.5, 272 lbs, 5.47 40, 25 reps, 23.8 VJ, 4.69 shuttle

Joe Mortensen (Clayton Valley HS, Concord CA)
6-0.5, 235 lbs, 4.66 40, 33 reps, 31.3 VJ, 4.25 shuttle
Very well-put-together player who certainly made a name for himself. Tested off the charts and then was the consensus amongst the coaching staff as the top LB in drillwork. Very muscular but can still move well laterally as well as north-south and accelerates quickly to the ball. Had 125 tackles, 8 sacks and 3 interceptions as a junior. Likes Colorado, Nebraska, Fresno State and Cal. 3.4 GPA.

Alan Darlin (Laguna Creek HS, Elk Grove CA)
6-0.5, 223 lbs, 4.84 40, 16 reps, 29.6 VJ, 4.00 shuttle
Another well-built prospect who may not have had the fastest 40 time, but showed excellent agility and lateral movement in drills. Very productive player who is also a potential college player at the fullback position. Was an All-State Underclass selection a year ago after totaling 150 tackles while rushing for 680 yards and 13 TDs. Likes Michigan, Oklahoma, USC and UCLA. 2.3 GPA and 1020 SAT.

Others who impressed:
Jed Collins (Mission Viejo CA) – 6-2, 230 lbs, 23 reps, 29.8 VJ, 4.17 shuttle
Ryan Reynolds (Lake Havusu AZ) – 6-1, 218 lbs, 4.72 40, 32 reps, 30.1 VJ, 4.08 shuttle – JUNIOR!

Willie Glasper (De La Salle HS, Concord CA)
5-11, 169 lbs, 4.34, 16 reps, 34.2 VJ, 3.83 shuttle
Outstanding athlete who tested off the charts and has all the physical tools to be a player at the next level. Could see his improvement technique-wise throughout the day in drills and reacted very well to being coached. Was a Student Sports Junior All-American and All-State Underclass selection last fall, helping De La Salle to another undefeated season. Likes USC, UCLA, Oregon, Cal, FSU, Texas and Nebraska, with offers from Oregon and Nebraska. 2.2 GPA and 900 SAT.

Randy Estes (Los Alamitos CA)
6-1, 180 lbs, 16 reps, 35.9 VJ
All-everything player who looked solid in coverage drills despite unfamiliarity of man-to-man matchups with WRs since he's a free safety. Wanted to run a 40 but didn't as his high school coaches told him not to, but is probably a 4.5 to 4.4 guy. Moves very well in space and is a sure tackler with the pads on. Likes USC, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Michigan and has offers from most of the nation's top programs.

Bernard Hicks (Edison HS, Fresno CA)
5-11, 190 lbs, 4.56 40, 17 reps, 31.6 VJ, 4.06 shuttle
Another player who upped his profile significantly at the camp. A strong safety who showed above average speed and was the coaches' top DB through all the drills up until one-on-ones, where he had some challenges matching up with the likes of Colvin, Hawkins and others in man-to-man coverage. Has good feet, and reads very quickly. Likes USC, Washington State and Oregon. 3.0 GPA.

Others who impressed:
Marty Tadman (Mission Viejo CA) – 5-11, 173 lbs, 4.54 40, 6 reps, 30.9 VJ, 4.14 shuttle

James Lewis (Venice HS, Los Angeles CA) – 6-1, 197 lbs, 4.51 40, 20 reps, 4.31 shuttle
