Shawne Williams: Wants to be in Top 10

Memphis Hamilton senior Shawne Williams has some summer goals. The small forward has been hot on the AAU circuit and he's looking to raise the price of his stock this summer.

Shawne Williams is hot so he figures why stop now.

"I'm trying to crack the Top 10," Williams said. It's going to be hard but I'm going to do it. It's something I want to accomplish. First, I wanted to be ranked in the nation. Now, I want to keep doing it to be ranked No. 1."

Those are lofty goals, but the Memphis Hamilton small forward continues to make strides with his game. The super athlete has been consistently expanding his range from the perimeter to the point where he's a viable option out there.

So far, he's been pleased but not content with his efforts. "I've been doing alright but I can do better. I need to play more defense and hit more shots."

Arkansas, Memphis, Indiana, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Tennessee and Houston would like for him to be hitting shots and playing defense for their programs in the fall of 2004. He's been on unofficial visits to Houston, Indiana and Memphis.

The list is long, but three or four schools are rising to the top as we speak, but it's early. "Memphis, Arkansas, Indiana and Tennessee are in the best shape right now. They're just recruiting me the hardest, really."

Williams is business on the court, but he wants very much to enjoy the college life. "I need a school where I'm going to play that has a fun campus, somewhere I'll like and enjoy."

Last season, Williams averaged 19 points. His finest hour this spring and summer came at the Houston Kingwood Classic when he led Memphis YOMCA to the title game of the tournament before falling to the NY Gauchos.
