Lady Vol sophomore Kaitlin Bargreen
(Lake Stevens, Wash.) has been named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches
Association All-America first team, while classmate Chelsea Pemberton
(Jacksonville, Fla.) was selected to the second team. Bargreen is
Tennessee's initial first-team honoree since the CRCA began presenting
an All-America squad in 1999.
Both Bargreen and Pemberton have garnered CRCA
All-South Region first-team honors in each of their first two years.
Additionally, Bargreen was recently recognized as a National
Scholar-Athlete by the CRCA. The two sophomores were key members of
UT's Varsity 8+ crew during a season in which the Lady Vols earned their
first-ever bid to the NCAA Championships in the First Eights
competition, placing 16th.
In addition to its NCAA appearance, Tennessee recorded a number of other
landmark achievements this season. The Lady Vols attained their
first-ever ranking in the USRowing/CRCA Varsity Eight Coaches Poll,
eventually climbing to the 14th spot in the final edition of the
ratings. The Orange and White also recorded a second-straight victory in
the Club 8+ at the Head of the Charles, and swept the varsity events at
the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships.
Although the Lady Vols will lose graduating seniors Kacey Montgomery and
Kay Logan, UT returns seven of its nine Varsity 8+ crew members next
season, including the All-America duo of Bargreen and Pemberton.
