When Hayden Stone received his baseball scholarship offer from Dave Serrano and the coaching staff at Tennessee, it didn't take long for the pitcher to make a decision.

The Class of 2013 right-hander verbally committed to the Volunteers after an unofficial visit to the campus the weekend of Jan. 13.

UT currently has three pledges in Stone's class, including Andrew Plunkett and Cameron Strickland.

As a sophomore, Stone helped lead Columbia Central to the TSSAA Class AAA state tournament, finishing runner-up to powerhouse Farragut. He earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association All-State honors after going 11-0 with a 1.42 earned run average with 102 strikeouts in 74 innings.

The Columbia, Tenn., native built momentum for the offseason with a productive summer that included logging some innings for Team Tennessee at the Junior Sunbelt Classic in Oklahoma where they went undefeated and placed first. He was joined on that team with Vol signees Nick Dawson, Andrew Lee and Colton Harris.

Columbia Central's 2012 season got underway earlier this week.

On Saturday, Stone helped the Lions both on the hill and at the dish in a 9-0 win over Dickson County. He twirled a complete-game one-hitter with nine strikeouts, while also banging out three hits.
