JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — The InsideTennessee.com staff of beat reporters hasn't missed a Tennessee
football practice since Josh Woodward took over as the magazine and website's publisher.
This week the staff has traveled east to Johnson City, Tenn., where the Orange & White spent Friday at Science Hill High School for practice. The crew is taking in the Volunteer workouts with a watchful eye to keep its site subscribers as educated on the Big Orange as possible.
Even with the Vols on the road, Friday afternoon was no different as InsideTennessee ventured to another preseason camp workout to get as much information, photographs and video footage as possible.
Here's a look at what stuck out to us Friday afternoon:
Flood-like conditions have ravaged the Elizabethton, Tenn., and the campus of Milligan College over the last five days, which forced the Vols to the comfort of the field turf at Science Hill and Steve Spurrier Field.
From the offensive side…
Freshman tailback Davante Bourque was missing from the Vols first practice in the Tri-Cities. This is the second missed practice in a row for Bourque, who missed practiced previously with neck injury.
Wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson (shoulder) was in a red non-contact jersey. Patterson, while unable to use his right arm, he was still fielding punts with his left hand. He didn't drop one if you were curious.
Alton "Pig" Howard (foot), Michael Rivera (knee) and Justin Meredith (hamstring) were all on the bike today. Rivera was wearing a new and very heavy brace the sprained knee.
Running back Rajion Neal took first team reps with the offense today and was followed by Devrin Young as the No. 2 in the lineup.
Center James Stone added in a shotgun snap to individual blocking drills. This is the first we have seen this from Stone who is still snapping left handed in the shotgun and right handed when Tyler Bray is under center.
From the defensive side…
Senior middle linebacker Herman Lathers was held out of team period today. The nature of his injury is still unknown. Lathers did, however, participate in individual drills leading InsideTennessee to believe the nature of the injury isn't overly serious.
Defensive end Marlon Walls acknowledged the fact that Tennessee was on Steve Spurrier Field this afternoon letting his teammate know the name of the turf as the Vols jogged out for warm-ups.
Stay tuned for more updates form Friday's practice from InsideTennessee.com.
