The InsideTennessee.com staff of beat reporters hasn't missed a Tennessee
football practice since Josh Woodward took over as the magazine and website's publisher.
Stationed at various parts of Haslam Field and Neyland-Thompson Sports Center, the crew is taking in the Volunteer workouts with a watchful eye to keep its site subscribers as educated on the Big Orange as possible.
Thursday was no different as InsideTennessee ventured to another preseason camp workout to get as much information, photographs and video footage as possible.
Here's a look at what stuck out to us Thursday:
The biggest news coming out of Thursday's practice is certainly the absence of wide receiver Da'Rick Rogers. The Vols only All-SEC first team nomination has been indefinitely suspended due to violation of team rules and was not at practice Thursday morning as Tennessee begins game preparations for the season opener with NC State.
The team was in shells this morning on a beautiful morning in Knoxville with temperatures in the mid 70s.
Kicker George Bullock, who was wearing No. 97, took former Tennessee tailback Davanté Bourque's number following his departure from the team. Staying on the same line, walk-on kicker Derrick Brodus joined the team for the first time today as class have started.
From the offensive side…
Wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson continues to be in a non-contact jersey, but with the scout team in red this week the jerseys have gone to green. On the other hand, tight end Mychal Rivera was full go for today's practice.
Running back Tom Smith (ankle), who has been limited due to injury, looked to be back up to speed today and participated fully in individual drills.
Alton "Pig" Howard was in the normal shells today, but he did not participate in individual drills and still looks to be a couple weeks away from full go. Howard could be crucial in helping replace Rogers if he doesn't return to the field shortly.
Running back Alden Hill was with the scout-team offense during the early portions of practice.
From the defensive side…
Middle linebacker Herman Lathers (quad) was in a green non-contact jersey again today.
Defensive lineman Daniel Hood, formerly No. 76, stole kicker George Bullock's number and is now wearing No. 97.
Middle linebacker Christian Harris, for the first time, was wearing a heavy brace on his left knee. Harris has progressed quickly in his rehab all along and this is likely another indication that he is still ahead of schedule.
Omari Phillips, Danny O'Brien, Allen Carson, Travarris Saulsberry and Tino Thomas were all with the scout-team defense.
