Jones finished 9th in the morning preliminaries among a tough field of 45 divers. The top 18 then moved onto the semis later in the afternoon, where Jones slipped one spot to 10th and then dropped one more spot in the evening's finals.
''I'm very proud of his performance thus far, considering his lack of experience at the world level,'' Parrington said. ''This is huge for his career. It is a big step to international success. He learned a lot of lessons and we will try to take them to another level. He scrapped hard and showed a lot of heart, We are all very proud of him.''
Jones will be competing in the 1-meter springboard event today.
