Lady Vols take I-40 rivalry, 88-81

It took 45 minutes to get it done, but Tennessee overcame a feisty Middle Tennessee team to win 88-81 in front of 10,768 at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville on Wednesday night.

The Lady Volunteers (5-1) outscored the Blue Raiders (4-2) 15-8 in the overtime period.

Tennessee placed four in double-figures with Meighan Simmons leading the way with 19 points. Bashaara Graves notched a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Ariel Massengale also tallied 15. Isabelle Harrison contributed 10 points and six blocks.

The hosts outstroked the Murfreesboro bunch at the free-throw line, hitting 76.2 percent of 21 attempts, while MT was 8-of-12.

Icelyn Elie poured in 21 points and grabbed seven boards for the Blue Raiders. Ebony Rowe had 19 points, Laken Leonard 17 and Shanice Cason 13.

The Lady Vols trailed 39-35 at halftime and did not get their first lead until 4:26 remained in regulation.

Tennessee goes to 20-0 all-time against MT and is 30-2 versus Sun Belt Conference foes.
