The InsideTennessee.com staff of beat reporters hasn't missed a Tennessee
football practice since Josh Woodward took over as the magazine and website's publisher.
Stationed at various parts of Haslam Field, Neyland-Thompson Sports Center and Shields-Watkins Field, the crew is taking in the Volunteer workouts with a watchful eye to keep its site subscribers as educated on the Big Orange as possible.
Wednesday morning was no different as InsideTennessee ventured to another spring practice to get as much information, photographs and video footage as possible.
Here's a look at what stuck out to us:
A quick spring shower visited Haslam Field Wednesday morning, but it didn't last long enough to force the football Vols inside.
Tiny Richardson, Jason Croom, Brendan Downs, Riyahd Jones, Justin Meredith, Jacob Carter, Jalen Reeves-Maybin and Curt Maggitt were all inactive for Wednesday's workout. Daniel Hood and Maurice Couch were both in green non-contact jerseys.
Athletics director Dave Hart was in attendance and taking in the sites at Haslam.
Local rising senior Zach Hodge of Karns (Tenn.) High School was in attendance.
From the offensive side…
Wide receiver Vincent Dallas returned to action after being held out with a stinger suffered in the second scrimmage of spring ball. Dallas had several nice catches and added another player to the return-game rotation.
Junior running back Marlin Lane continues to be absent from practice with Alden Hill grabbing No. 2 reps behind Rajion Neal.
Walk-on tight end Alex Ellis continues to make his presence felt as he reeled in a long pass against the first-team defense and held on after a big hit from Brian Randolph.
The wide receiver group continues to be a working in progress. Cody Blanc looked to have a sure touchdown catch in team work against the first-team defensive backs before the long ball went through his hands in the back of the end zone.
From the defensive side…
Redshirt sophomore Brian Randolph reeled in an interception against the second-team offense and quarterback Nathan Peterman. Randolph is currently opposite Byron Moore at safety with the first-team defense.
In the absence of Daniel Hood, defensive tackle Greg Clark worked with the first-team defense today.
In the absence Riyahd Jones, Naz Oliver was working with the first team while Jaron Toney took snaps at the nickel.
Defensive end LaTroy Lewis read a reverse perfectly against the first-team offense and notched a tackle for loss on wide receiver Devrin Young.
Corey Miller has become a vital player in the defensive line rotation as the first player in at end behind Jacques Smith and Marlon Walls.
