IT picks the SEC

InsideTennessee's staff brings you great writing and great predicting. Check out our projections for this week's SEC games:

In a weekend filled with unattractive matchups, the most watchable game on this Saturday's SEC schedule will be a battle of Tigers. Auburn and LSU put their 3-0 records on the line Saturday night in Baton Rouge.

Two other games could prove somewhat interesting: Arkansas faces a non-conference test at Rutgers and Tennessee hopes to bounce back from its frightful beating at Oregon against Florida at The Swamp. The rest of this weekend's SEC matchups range from lackluster to utterly dreadful.

Josh Woodward went 8-0 on last week's picks to pull into a three-way tie for first place on the season at 31-2. Randy Moore and Danny Parker went 7-1 last week each, while Riley Blevins checked in at 6-2.

Here are this week's picks:

Vanderbilt at UMass: Wow ... Talk about Must-See TV. I love SEC football and even I wouldn't watch this game. Vandy, 31-14

North Texas at Georgia: The Bulldogs definitely will be looking ahead to next week's showdown with LSU ... and it definitely will not matter. Dawgs, 52-14

Arkansas at Rutgers: I'll take a mediocre SEC team over a mediocre Big East team every time. Hogs, 38-28

Colorado State at Alabama: The Tide tunes up for next Saturday's game with Ole Miss. Bama, 52-7

SMU at Texas A&M: Johnny "Show me the money" Football puts up a bunch more gaudy stats as the Aggies bounce back from their loss to Alabama. A&M, 49-28

Troy at Mississippi State: Troy is one of those teams that will upset you if you go to sleep. Dan Mullen better be wide awake. State, 27-17

Auburn at LSU: Gus Malzahn's offense versus John Chavis' defense. It doesn't get much better than that. Too bad Malzahn is fighting with a short stick. LSU, 31-20

Missouri at Indiana: I'll take a mediocre SEC team over a mediocre Big Ten team every time, too. Tigers, 31-24

Tennessee at Florida: No matter who the Vol QB is, the offense is sure to struggle against the Gators' talent-rich defense. Florida, 24-10

Vanderbilt at UMass: The Commodores will have to deal with Marcus Camby's length and the crowd noise but should prevail. Vanderbilt, 37-10.

North Texas at Georgia: Cakewalk week for several SEC teams, including the Bulldogs. Georgia, 45-7.

Arkansas at Rutgers: Far and away the toughest call of the week. Last week I lost with the chips on the table. Do better. Rutgers, 30-24.

Colorado State at Alabama: Nick Saban isn't likely to beat up on his old offensive coordinator too awful bad. Alabama, 33-9.

SMU at Texas A&M: Expectations are for more yards and points than many expect. Texas A&M, 56-34.

Troy at Mississippi State: The hot seat is making its way to Starkville. Lose this one and it sets up shop in Dan Mullen's office. Mississippi State, 40-37.

Auburn at LSU: That moment when you and your fan base realize you're years away from being elite. Yeah... LSU, 45-10.

Missouri at Indiana: Upset special? Could be, but I'm not picking it. Missouri, 26-14.

Tennessee at Florida: Walk-ons covering former prep All-Americans paired with a quarterback slower than defensive ends spells bad news. Florida, 27-6.

Vanderbilt at UMass: Vanderbilt has had a tremendous amount of off the field distractions, but I don't think UMass can keep it close. 45-10 Dores

North Texas at Georgia: Georgia shouldn't have any trouble with North Texas. 52-17 Bulldogs

Arkansas at Rutgers: This is the hardest game of the week to pick. I think Arkansas can run the ball well enough to win though. Also Rutgers could be starting a backup. 24-20 Hogs

Colorado State at Alabama: Not much to say about this game. 48-3 Tide

SMU at Texas A&M: Could the Aggies hang their heads after the Alabama loss? Probably, but it doesn't matter. 42-10 A&M

Troy at Mississippi State: Mississippi State could be dragging after the loss to Auburn. A loss to Troy would get the Dan Mullen hot seat on fire. I see a close game here. 31-28 Bulldogs

Auburn at LSU: Auburn has overachieved this season so far and that is a sign of good coaching, but they don't have the talent to compete with LSU. 38-24 Bayou Bengals

Missouri at Indiana: Another tough pick this week, Missouri is only favored by 3. I'm going out on a small limb here and picking the upset. 42-38 Indiana

Tennessee at Florida: Well after talking to the Tennessee staff, the Vols match up much better with the Gators than they did Oregon. Does this mean they win? Probably not, but it does mean this should be a close game with a chance to win in the 4th quarter. Tennessee needs turnovers on defense and zero special teams mistakes. The offense needs some spark that will likely come from a new quarterback. If they can pound the football and get some good quarterback runs they have a chance. In the end I think the Gators depth will hurt Tennessee. 31-20 Gators

Vanderbilt at UMass: Not sure why ESPN's College GameDay didn't go to this one. It's bound to be a memorable match up. Not. Vandy 34-13.

North Texas at Georgia: Todd Gurley is good. Gurley 42, North Texas 17.

Arkansas at Rutgers: Rutgers' head football coach Klye Flood will feel like taking a page out of Mike Rice's book after the Razorbacks win. Arkansas 28-21.

Colorado State at Alabama: Colorado State lost to Colorado. Colorado gets beat by everyone. Alabama 50-10.

SMU at Texas A&M: The real question is: who made more money in college – Johnny Football or Eric Dickerson and Craig James? Texas A&M 45-14.

Troy at Mississippi State: Unless Mississippi State hires Sal Sunseri in the next few hours, it's safe to say they'll walk away winners. Bulldogs 34-17.

Auburn at LSU: This is going to be a rough loss for the Tigers... of Auburn. LSU 42, Auburn 21

Missouri at Indiana: This match up makes for an interesting game in both football and basketball. Tigers win in football. Hooisers win in basketball. Missouri 34-13.

Tennessee at Florida: Tennessee's offense - regardless of who's playing quarterback - won't be able to score enough points to put this one away. Florida 34-10.
