ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The number of tight ends in the 2015 class getting scholarship offers from Tennessee figures to be few.

Of that select group with a grant in hand already is Garrett Williams.

The Scout four-star prospect from Orlando, Fla., continues to reciprocate strong interest in the Volunteers.

"They're really high, top 3 probably," Williams told InsideTennessee. "I loved it when I went up there. I've been there twice. Coach Elder is a great man and so is coach Jones. They run a great program. I look forward to getting to know them better."

Joining the Orange & White in that top group are Clemson and Florida State.

If he chose Tennessee that would give the Southeastern Conference School a bevy of talent at the position in the future as it signed two of the nation's top 10 in 2014 — Daniel Helm and Ethan Wolf. Williams ranks among the juniors as the No. 8 tight end in the country.

Williams says communication with the Vols is consistent.

"I have, I have. I've been keeping up with him through Christmas. I expect to give him a call here shortly after today sometime."

The First Academy standout saw the Volunteers upset South Carolina 23-21 back in October.

At the Under Armour Combine in early January, he 6-foot-3 1/2, 225-pounder ran a laser-timed 5.15 40-yard dash and measured 27 1/2 inches in the vertical leap. He bench pressed 185 pounds 18 times.

"Great talent out here, the best of the best," Williams said.
