In the end, a two-year contact extension with roughly a half a million dollar raise weren't enough to keep Cuonzo Martin on at Tennessee, opting for the vacant head coaching position at California.

Shockingly, Tennessee director of athletics Dave Hart admitted that he did not know of Martin's interest in the California job until Tuesday morning. An emotion Martin told Hart of his intentions and the moving labels are set to say "From: Knoxville, To: Berkeley."

Hart said Tennessee will "immediately get into a national search seeking a replacement for Cuonzo as our head basketball coach."

Martin takes over a Golden Bears team that has won 21 or more games in five of their last six seasons under Mike Montgomery, who announced his retirement on March 31.

In his three-year stay on Rocky Top, Martin compiled a win-loss record of 63-41, including a 24-13 mark in a 2013-14 season that saw the Big Orange reach the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16.
