Diamond Vols lineup projection

Ten teams from the Southeastern Conference earned spots in the 2014 NCAA Tournament as the 64-team bracket was announced Monday.

In spite of playing in the best conference in the country, carrying an RPI of 51 and a double-digit number of victories versus Top 25 foes, the Tennessee Volunteers were left out of the NCAA field.

That omission means coach Dave Serrano and his assistants Greg Bergeron and Aric Thomas will hit the road in force to build on the commitment list for 2015 that already includes heralded prospects like catcher Chris Betts, third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes, shortstop Daniel Neal and pitcher Will Neely.

Serrano & Co. signed 11 players last November for the 2014 class, headlined by Knoxville's own Lane Thomas. That bunch could provide added depth and create more fall competition in a steadily improving roster of talent on Rocky Top.

Who is expected to sprint onto the field first when Tennessee opens up in 2015? InsideTennessee takes a look with its way-too-early lineup projection in premium message board VolChat.
