Bruce striving to be Vols' next Howard

Not many high-school football players have the opportunity to play Division I football in their hometown. Find out more about a senior dual-threat who is getting to do so in Knoxville.

Jocquez Bruce picked up his scholarship offer from Tennessee back in mid-June the old-fashioned way...he earned it.

Knowing that he needed an eye-popping team camp performance on Rocky Top to impress coach Butch Jones and his staff, Bruce came through and clocked a personal-best 40-yard dash time.

Just 3 days later, Bruce's name was on Tennessee's commitment list for the 2015 signing class.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pounder plays at South Doyle High School in Knoxville under former Tennessee letterman Clark Duncan.

On Friday night, Bruce rarely left the field in a 41-14 win over Jefferson County. The future Vol ran the football 13 times for 144 yards with two touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 38 yards, including a 20-yard TD. He finished with 279 all-purpose yards.
