The Tennessee defense allowed 625 total yards of Gamecock offense, therefore not allowing too many opportunities to speak highly of the unit. The defense did cause five sacks, forced a turnover and got an impressive performance out of freshman defensive end Derek Barnett.
Barnett got into the backfield for three sacks, upping his total to seven for the season. It wasn't just the sacks that made his performance stand out on Saturday night, but his overall toughness on the road in the SEC that has Volunteer fans excited about what number 9 will be able to do opposing offenses in the future.
