It sounded like nothing more than "coach speak" when Donnie Tyndall warned fans a week ago that his basketball team would struggle with Pikeville in the team's 2014 exhibition opener. His prediction was all too real after the Vols fell behind by nine at the 14-minute mark of the first half. Tennessee answered with a 15-2 run and from there the Volunteers would cruise to an 80-62 win.
In the early goings, the Vols showed why they were picked to finish 13th in the SEC but did have spurts where it looked like they could hold their own with the top four in the conference. With nine new players on the roster, it will take time before those moments of solid play are stretched out over several minutes.
In this basketball edition of the Insider Report, we look at three things to take from this game. The good, the bad and the just getting started.
