Insider Report: Mid-spring movers, shakers

A spring roster torn down by injuries has opportunity aplenty for many Tennessee Volunteers.

Kendal Vickers went from South Carolina linebacker signee to Vols defensive tackle. On Tuesday, Vickers was singled out by coach Butch Jones for the D-tackle's work in a goal-line drill.

Alvin Kamara started opening eyes the second he got to Rocky Top in January with his leadership and work ethic. The Scout five-star running back was absent from Tuesday's workout, leaving the Big Orange without even one fully healthy scholarship running back with which to work.

Corey Vereen is a first-team defensive end for the Volunteers that had been practicing lightly this spring for the Volunteers but the Orlando native joined a laundry list of players needing to recover from surgery. Vereen had to go under the knife to repair a knee injury.

Rumors of Coleman Thomas' return to the active roster were premature but his eventual return this summer has not yet been ruled out.
