McALESTER, Okla. — Mason Hickman says he grew up a Tennessee fan. That doesn't mean the Nashville resident will be a Volunteer but coach Dave Serrano and his staff are in the hunt to get the hard thrower's signature on a National Letter of Intent.
College coaches and pro scouts will follow Hickman around for several starts over the final two years of his time at Pope John Paul II. Lipscomb, Tennessee and Vanderbilt are three programs already showing heavy interest.
Hickman took the mound in the 2015 TSSAA Division II Class A state tournament for PJPII and went 6 2/3 innings with 14 strikeouts against three hits, three walks and one run allowed.
The 6-foot-6 right-hander took his talents west to compete for his state and Team Tennessee in the Junior Sunbelt Classic this June. Hickman did his part, tossing a complete-game shutout against Team Missouri.
