Tennessee got its crowd involved early with a 17-point lead and held on late for a 27-24 victory over South Carolina in front of 101,253 fans at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.
It wasn't the output on the ground Tennessee (5-4, 3-3 Southeastern Conference) expected, netting 153 rushing yards on 41 attempts, but still effective. Sophomore Jalen Hurd led the way with 90 yards on 23 attempts.
Senior quarterback Joshua Dobbs picked up for the lackluster ground attack, completing 20 of 34 passes for 255 yards with two touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Von Pearson caught eight passes for 121 yards — both career highs — with a 37-yard touchdown.
It was the third straight victory for the Vols in the series. Six of the last 11 meetings between the SEC Eastern Division foes has been decided by three points or less.
