Vols release 2005 grid slate

A trip to South Bend, Ind., to face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Nov. 5 highlights Tennessee's 2005 football schedule. The slate also includes eight Southeastern Conference tilts and two home non-league contests against Conference USA foes Memphis Tigers on Nov. 12 and the season opener against the Alabama-Birmigham Blazers on Sept. 3.

The Notre Dame and Memphis games conclude a two-year home-and-home series, while it will be the second-ever meeting with the Blazers since first playing in 1998.

The four league home games include matchups against Mississippi on Oct. 1, Georgia Oct. 8, South Carolina Oct. 29 and Vanderbilt Nov. 19.

The Vols open up conference play with back-to-back road games against Florida and LSU September 17 and 24, before playing a traditional rivalry game at Alabama on Oct. 22. UT closes out the regular season at Kentucky on Nov. 26. It will be the first scheduled meeting with the LSU Tigers since the 2001 SEC Championship game which will once again be held at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on Dec. 3.
