Jalen Hurd is no longer a member of Tennessee's football team.
Fourth-year Tennessee coach Butch Jones confirmed the news Monday at his press conference.
"Have nothing but respect for that young man," said Jones, who added that Hurd was injured for the second half of the 24-21 loss to South Carolina in Columbia on Saturday.
"I hope he finds everything he's looking for."
The Beech High School product departs with 2,638 rushing yards on 589 attempts with 20 rushing touchdowns. He is fifth on Tennessee's all-time rushing list.
Speculation has Hurd desiring a transition to play H-back or tight end but will do so at another university.
Hurd has more career receptions (67-492 yards, 6 touchdowns) than tight ends Ethan Wolf (57-649, 3) and Jason Croom (49-715, 6).
