John Kelly providing Vols with unique energy

Follow InsideTennessee for in-depth coverage of the Volunteers all season long.

John Kelly took the field in Neyland Stadium on Saturday for his debut as Tennessee's starting running back, and it only took the sophomore a single-digit number of touches to put up triple digits in yardage, topping out at 104 yards on seven attempts.

One of those was a 73-yard dash straight to the end zone for a Tennessee touchdown in the first quarter.

The speedster's explosiveness is providing Team 120 with a dynamic style of play. According to offensive lineman Brett Kendrick, Kelly's ability is "all you can ask for out of your back."

Kelly's quick and physical style of play is not his only valuable facet for the Vols offense.

"He plays the game with a lot of passion, and he likes to have a lot of fun so I guess we're just kind of feeding off his energy," Kendrick said. "We just had a lot of fun last week playing together, but (Kelly) has been huge for us."

Watch the video above to hear more from Kendrick and quarterback Joshua Dobbs about how the sophomore running back's demeanor benefits the  offense.
