Insider Report: TSSAA Mr. Football recap

A talented group of Volunteer State football players got recognition for impressive 2016 seasons at the TSSAA Mr. Football Awards banquet.

NASHVILLE — Major hardware to lug home for some of the Volunteer State's premier prep football players as the Tennessee Titans TSSAA Mr. Football Awards banquet took place at Nissan Stadium on Monday.

The interest in Tennessee among the seniors isn't as high as in recent years as players such as Tee Higgins, Cordarrian Richardson and Amari Rodgers are all Clemson bound.

Others had gaudy statistics and fantastic seasons such as Marion County's Alex Kirkendoll had 126 tackles, Greenback's Josh Silvey tallied 11 sacks and Austin East quarterback Darius Harper accounted for 46 touchdowns. However, they are not being recruited by coach Butch Jones and Co.

Some being honored either giving the Volunteers considerable interest or grace the commitment list include Montgomery Bell Academy running back Ty Chandler, Memphis Central lineman Trevis Hopper, Knoxville Catholic lineman Cade Mays, Alcoa receiver Tykee Ogle-Kellogg and University School of Jackson blocker Trey Smith.
