Kendrell Scurry on life as Vols commit: 'Everything is just amazing'

Kendrell Scurry knows a thing or two about winning football. See what the future Tennessee Volunteer said about another Independence High playoff run and Big Orange football.

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — Kendrell Scurry fits the "winner" portion of Tennessee's recruiting profile.

The Scout four-star wide receiver prospect has never lost a game at Independence (Tenn.) High School and the Eagles carry a 29-game streak into Friday night's TSSAA Class 5A state championship against Farragut.

Getting there was no simple task as Independence trailed by two scores with less than 8 minutes. The Eagles went to work and Scurry stepped up. The sophomore had 10 reception for 94 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown grab on third-and-six with 4:41 left in the game and his team's season on the line.

That ability to step up when the game is in question is heading to Rocky Top as Scurry gave a verbal commitment to Tennessee back on July 26. Teammate TJ Sheffield decided Monday to join Scurry at WRU in 2019.
