Road Trip: TSSAA Class 2A, 4A, 6A state championships

The high-school football season in the state of Tennessee didn't end without some theatrics.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — The high school football season in the Volunteer State came to a close on a cold, wet Saturday for the TSSAA Class 2A, 4A and 6A state championships.

Memphis was the all the craze for every contest on the last day, starting with Trezevant drubbing Wayne County 42-20 in the 2A game.

In the late afternoon 4A matchup, Memphis East's Timothy Taylor put the Mustangs on top early with a first-quarter touchdown and they never looked back en route to a 27-3 win over Marion County.

The theatrics came in the nightcap. Murfreesboro-Oakland got both a scoring run and a safety in the opening quarter and the Patriots looks like they were going to roll over Whitehaven. However, the Tigers never went away and got the title-winning score on Lesley Mosby's 3-yard dive into the drenched end zone with 2:01 to play.
