Spring Rewind: Vols freshman LB Shanon Reid

Don't worry about the opinions of message board posters with Tennessee's new crop of Volunteers. Let IT show you exactly what the future looks like. View video of freshman linebacker Shanon Reid in orange.

The recruiting process was circuitous for Shanon Reid.

The linebacker leaned toward Michigan and Mississippi State midway through his senior season at Dunbar (Fla.) High School. The attention then moved to Louisiana State and Tennessee. After feeling somewhat betrayed by the Tigers, the hard-hitting 'backer chose Rocky Top as his collegiate home.

The 6-foot, 205-pounder spoke candidly and confidently about earning first-team playing time his first season as a Volunteer. With Jalen Reeves-Maybin on to the NFL and the Detroit Lions, a key spot on the second line of Tennessee's defense is wide open for all comers. Reid not only wears Reeves-Maybin's former number but has the athletic ability to move in all directions to make plays just like the former Big Orange captain.
