Thursday Practice Report

Tennessee put the finishing touches on their preparations for the Florida Gators on Thursday afternoon. The long awaited traveling roster was also released with at least one key name noticeably absent.

Sophomore running back Gerald Riggs will not make the trip because of a sprained ankle. Riggs had not practiced at all during the last two weeks. However, the coaching staff listed him as questionable up until Thursday.

"He's just not healthy," head coach Phillip Fulmer said.

NCAA rules mandate that only 70 players can travel for conference road games.

Defensive end Cory Anderson and kicker Phillip Newman will stay in Knoxville, too.

On the other side of the spectrum, quarterback Jim Bob Cooter and kicker Ryan Fusco will be with the team in Gainesville.

Some have argued that this game has lost a bit of it's luster.

For example, Steve Spurrier won't be roaming the sidelines. Neither team is in the top ten. Georgia may be the best team in the east. As a matter of fact, Tennessee-Florida isn't even getting top billing as the best game in the SEC on Saturday. Georgia-LSU will have all eyes directed on them with the 3:30 kick-off.

Nevertheless, Fulmer isn't giving any credence to the above ideas.

"It's still a big game on the national level," Fulmer said.

The Vols head coach went on to add that he believes both teams have a shot to be ranked in the top five by the end of the season.

The Vols will leave Knoxville at around 1pm on Friday. They have a walk-through scheduled for mid-afternoon in Gainesville.
