The Ole Miss Rebels didn't beat LSU last weekend but they gave such a good accounting of themselves in the 17-14 loss that they proved they're for real.
The Tigers, meanwhile, showed they're one of the country's elite teams, thanks to a dominating defense that is just about impregnable. Personally, I think LSU
can give top-ranked Oklahoma
a good game in the Sugar Bowl if the BCS rankings give Nick Saban's team that opportunity.
On the other end of the spectrum, Mississippi State (a 52-6 loser to Arkansas), Vanderbilt (a 48-0 loser to Tennessee) and South Carolina (a 63-17 loser to Clemson) showed last weekend they may be even worse than we thought.
That said, here's a look at this week's SEC ratings, based on the usual 1-10 scale:
S. Carolina 4.5
Ole Miss 8.5
Miss. State 3.0
