Wilson is SEC defender of week

Vol strong safety Gibril Wilson has been named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Vols' 20-7 win at Kentucky.

Wilson recorded 11 total tackles -- 9 solos, 2 assists -- plus two tackles for loss, a sack and three pass breakups. He has led the Vols in tackles the last three games in a row and four of the last five.

Wilson is a key reason Tennessee won its final six games to finish the regular season 10-2 overall and tied for the SEC East title at 6-2 in league play.

A native of San Jose, Calif., Wilson has been red-hot the last three games, registering six tackles for losses, two sacks and eight pass deflections.

Wilson is the first Vol defensive player tabbed SEC Player of the Week this year but the sixth Vol overall.
