Tennessee's football staff has an opening.
According to Monday's editions of The Knoxville News-Sentinel, Vol running backs coach Woody McCorvey informed head coach Phillip Fulmer Sunday morning that he is leaving UT to become offensive coordinator at Mississippi State.
The move comes as no surprise. McCorvey has been looking for a coordinator or assistant head coach position that could serve as the stepping stone to a head coaching job. In addition, he is a friend of new Mississippi State
head coach Sylvester Croom, the man who offered him the position.
Fulmer has several options in filling the void created by McCorvey's departure. If he hires another running backs coach, Georgia aide Ken Rucker is an option. Rucker grew up in nearby Morristown and has done an excellent job with the youthful Bulldog backs this season.
There also is a possibility that Fulmer will switch current receivers coach Pat Washington to running backs and hire a new receivers coach. If so, former Vol Thomas ''T.D.'' Woods is an intriguing option. A native of Gallatin, he currently serves as receivers coach at Ole Miss.
