Huskers enter Brohm derby

Tennessee's bid for prep quarterback Brian Brohm just gained a new competitor.

New Nebraska head man Bill Callahan is bringing the west coast offense with him, and he envisions a young man with Brohm's qualifications running it.

"He's tried to get in touch with me last night and the night before." Brohm said.

With just three weeks left to Signing Day and Brohm's list already down to Tennessee, Notre Dame, Louisville and Kentucky, Callahan's pitch may fall on deaf ears. Then again, maybe not.

''I'll listen to what he has to say.'' Brohm said. ''Realistically, it's pretty late, but with this stuff, you never know what could happen. I wouldn't say it's a good shot, but I can't rule it out either. We'll see what happens.''

Interestingly enough, when asked which pro quarterback he most resembles, Brohm laughed and responded, ''Rich Gannon.''

Gannon was Callahan's starting QB at Oakland the past two years.
