Top tackle considers seven

One of Tennessee's top defensive tackle prospects is having difficulty trimming his list of potential college homes.

Neil Brown, a 6-1, 248-pound defensive tackle from Buford, Ga., already has visited Duke, North Carolina and Michigan State. He also has official visits scheduled to Tennessee and Alabama, plus an unofficial tour of Auburn.

So, he's narrowed his options to six ... right? Nope.

He's also looking to the west. He's wondering if the recent coaching change at Nebraska could put him in the sights of new Cornhusker coach Bill Callahan.

''Nebraska is a team I grew up watching." Neil told The Insiders Network. ''And coach Callahan, he's obviously a great coach, but they haven't made any contact with me yet, so I don't know."

Given that all of his official visits already are taken/scheduled, what would he do if the Huskers suddenly offer a tour of their campus?

''I don't know,'' he said. ''I know I still have some interest in them, but I guess I'll wait to see if they contact me before I have to figure that out.''

Tennessee already has one defensive tackle prospect signed (JUCO standout Jesse Mahelona) and another committed (Chattanooga prep star Demonte Bolden). But Brown is an intriguing prospect who needs only some added bulk to be a force at the college level. He recorded a mind-boggling 124 tackles as a senior last fall, including four sacks.
