Ayers enjoyed UT visit

South Carolina still leads but Tennessee apparently made up some ground last weekend on one of the Palmetto State's top prospects.

Robert Ayers of Bennettsville High of Marlboro County, S.C., says he favors the Gamecocks slightly over UT, Florida and Florida State.

He made his official visit to Tennessee last weekend, hosted by offensive lineman and fellow South Carolinian Eric Young.

''I loved the unity of the team and how they all stuck together and hung out together,'' Ayers told TheInsiders network. ''It's a really nice and big campus, and it seems like there's a lot to do.''

He visited the Gamecocks on Jan. 9. He visits Florida this weekend and tours Florida State Jan. 30.

''I like South Carolina because I like my chances of playing early,'' he said. ''I think they'd be my best shot to get on the field early. I also communicate well with the coaches because they are energetic and work hard.

''I want to be sure I find a place where I'll be able to live for five years and where I'll be comfortable.''
