Timmons to tour Tennessee

It's no secret that Tennessee's defense depends heavily on quality linebackers, and one the country's best 'backer prospects will be visiting Knoxville this weekend.

Lawrence Timmons (Wilson High School of Florence, S.C.) is a 6-1, 220-pounder with 4.5 speed. He was all-conference as a junior, registering 95 tackles and four forced fumbles. He also played wide receiver in 2002, recording 42 catches for 690 yards and 14 touchdowns.

UT's chances of landing Timmons may be a little tougher, though, now that he is coming off an enjoyable visit to Gainesville last weekend.

''I had a great trip to Florida,'' Timmons told Scott Kennedy of TheInsiders.com. ''The highlight of my trip was running out on the field and seeing myself on the jumbo-tron.''

Basically, the competition for Timmons' services has become a three-school race.

''I'm going to Tennessee this weekend,'' he said. ''I'm probably going to have a decision sometime next week. I'm still looking at three teams -- Florida State, Florida, and Tennessee."
